Pastor's Points of Light  - Vol 53:1/2 2005

To know wisdom and instruction,

to discern

the sayings of understanding,
Proverbs 1:2

These were the very words of Holy Scripture that are recorded as having first been translated following the miraculous creation of the Holy Armenian Alphabet in the year 405ad, by Sts. Sahag and Mesrob.   This passage was no arbitrary selection!  The words of this Proverb express specifically the intent for the very holy task of seeking God's inspiration for the creation of our Alphabet.  It was the desire of Catholicos Sahag, to bring the evangelical and life giving Wisdom of the Scriptures and the writings of the patristic Instruction, to the Armenian people in their vernacular language, the Armenian language.

Only by making available the God-breathed instruction of the Holy Writings in their own language could the Catholicos hope to bring the knowledge of Christ, Salvation and the discernment of the sayings of the church fathers to the children of the church. This year, 2005, is the Year of the Youth as well as  the  celebration  of  the 1,600th Anniversary of the Creation of the Alphabet.  Let us dedicate ourselves to Youth and to teaching them wisdom and instruction and to equip them to discern the faith and tradition of our forefathers. This task is the mission of our church and like Mesrop Mashdots before us, involves consensus and a partnership of all God's people.  Please commit yourselves to the spirit of Sts. Sahag and Mesrop Mashdots and make the covenant to God and our Youth.

Prayerfully, In Christ,

Der Shnork
