Jack Hagop Dadaian M.D.

January 20, 1936 - October 16, 2009

Dr. Jack H. Dadaian, a pulmonologist with a medical career that spanned more than 40 years, died on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Mountainside Hospital in Montclair.  He was 73.

 

Born in Jersey City on January 20, 1936, he was the son of Mardiros and Arshalous (Barouchian) Dadaian who immigrated to the United States from Armenia.  Dr. Dadaian grew up in Weehawken and lived in Verona for 30 years prior to moving to West Orange 15 years ago.

 

Dr. Dadaian graduated from Seton Hall University in 1958 and received his medical degree from Seton Hall College of Medicine & Dentistry in 1962.   He was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, Medical Corp., from 1963 to 1965 and completed his Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at the New Jersey College of Medicine in 1968. 

 

As the founder of Respiratory Disease Associates in Glen Ridge, Dr. Dadaian specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of lung disease and sleep disorders.  He had extensive expertise and knowledge in the evaluation of individuals exposed to industrial and environmental pollutants, asbestos and related diseases.  He has also held various teaching and lecturer positions throughout the years.

 

Dr. Dadaian was an Attending Physician at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, Clara Maas Medical Center in Belleville and St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, where he has taken care of thousands of patients and their families and saved countless lives.  At Mountainside Hospital, he held the titles of Director of Pulmonary Disease and Director of Pulmonary Education and Clinical Instructor of Pulmonary Disease.  He served as the Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy at both Mountainside Hospital and Clara Maas Medical Center. 

 

Since 1977, Dr. Dadaian has consistently received a Physician Recognition Award from the Medical Society of New Jersey and in the New Jersey Monthly publication, he was chosen by his peers to receive the Top Doctor Award from 2006 to 2009.  Always singing or whistling, Dr. Dadaian� s warm, friendly presence will be remembered fondly by all of those he left behind.

 

Dr. Dadaian was a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the American Thoracic Society, the Medical Society of New Jersey and Essex County and the New Jersey Thoracic Society (Past member of the Governing Council).  He was also an active member of St. Mary Armenian Church in Livingston, as well as a life-long member of Red Sox Nation.

 

Dr. Dadaian is survived by his four children, Stephanie Dadaian Thompson (and her husband William), Jon-Paul Dadaian, M.D., Nicole Dadaian Guidara (and her husband Keith), and Matthew Luke Dadaian; loving partner Debra Corbo; four grandchildren, Lydia, Holly, Brooke and Justin; beloved sisters Anna Dadaian and Barbara Chamberjian (and her husband Albert); a niece Jennifer Kapoian (and her husband Toros), two nephews Erik Chamberjian and Jeffery Chamberjian; and two great nephews, Theodore and Christopher.  He is also survived by his former wife, Janet Dadaian and his dearest life-long friend, Tom Fourounjian, who was like a brother to him.

 

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary Armenian Church, 200 West Mount Pleasant Avenue, Livingston (www.myarmenianchurch.org) on Friday, October 23 at 10 a.m.

 

Visiting hours will be held in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona (www.proutfuneralhome.com) on Thursday, October 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary Armenian Church, 200 West Mount Pleasant Avenue, Livingston 07039 would be appreciated.

The Funeral Church Service will take place at St. Mary Armenian Church on Friday October 23rd at 10:00am.
