Greater Entrance or Transfer of Gifts

"Transfer of the Gifts" (Psalms 19:6 and 68:33, Hab 3:3 and Psalm 24:7-10

Duirng the Greater Entrance, an ordained clergyman (full deacon or higher) removing his slippers and any visible jewelry, after offering incense to the Altar then to the niche containing the gifts, very reverently transfers the gifts of bread and wine, contained in the sacred chalice to the priest by reciting the following:

**NOTE WELL: Contrary to some false practices, the deacon must never form a sign of the cross with the gifts, but only hold them overhead in a steady and reverent emrace with both hands.

1/ Facing the North: Psalm 19:6

Its rising is from one end of heaven,
         And its circuit to the other end;
         And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

2/Facing the East: Psalm 68:33

To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old!
         Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.

3/Facing South: Habakukk 3:3

God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran.  His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.

Facing the priest: Psalm 24:7-10

Deacon: 7 Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!  And the King of glory shall come in.
