Prayer of the Married – Adapted by Fr. Shnork Souin

My bountiful God and Lord Jesus Christ, I beseech You, listen to my humble prayer, that I may ever discern that the married state is holy and that I must keep it holy.  Lord, You alone are Holy, exempt from every sin and gracious in Your love for all mankind, desiring not the death of the sinner but that he might turn and live.  Enlighten my mind that I may turn from my former self and live according to Your will and fashioned in Your Holy image.

In Your infinite love, Lord Jesus, You took to Yourself a Bride and made Her holy and cleansed Her with the washing of Your Word, with an unfailing promise that You would be faithful to Her eternally.

As a child of your Most holy Bride, the One Holy Apostolic Church, grant Your grace that I may never sin against Her and that I may always be faithful and loving in my marriage to (name of spouse).  Lord, let not the sun go down on my anger, but foster between us love for You and for each other.  Manifest in us the spirit of humility, of understanding and of peace, the spirit of repentance and forgiveness that no strife, quarrel or misunderstanding, may arise between us.  Grant us health and our daily bread, whereby we may serve You and glorify You for ever and ever. Amen.

This Prayer can be kept by the marital bed and prayed nightly or at difficult moments throughout one’s married life.

Prayer of Parents for their Children

O God, our heavenly Father, Who loves mankind, and are most merciful and compassionate, have mercy upon our children, Your servants, (name of your children),  for whom I humbly pray, and commend them to your gracious protection.  O God, be their guide and guardian in all their endeavors; lead them in the path of Your truth, and draw them near to You, that they may lead a righteous life pleasing to You.  Keep them in Your love and fear; doing Your will in all matters. Give them grace that they may be temperate, industrious, diligent, devout and charitable. Defend them against the assaults of the enemy, and grant them wisdom and strength to resist all temptation and corruption of this life; and direct them in the way of salvation, for the merits of Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, and the intercessions of His Holy Mother, and Your blessed saints. Amen.

This Prayer can be prayed nightly or at difficult moments throughout one’s life.
